9103: The Development of Capitalism and Socialism

This course is presented in three modules, one per day. The first module traces the development of key elements of a capitalist economic system in England—private ownership of property, a banking system, shareholder corporations, a stock market, and credit borrowing for investing. The second module traces the development of the industrial revolution in England and the socialist response to the abuses of the revolution as represented by Karl Marx and three socialist responses—Communism in Russia, Democratic Socialism in England, and Social Democracy in Sweden. The third module presents the Nordic Model of a Social Democratic welfare state and explores components of the Swedish social welfare system.

He was a university Assistant Professor in California, an Assistant Director in a federal research agency in Washington, and Vice President of two technology companies. For the last 25 years, he has had his own consulting practice focusing on helping organizations use data to manage organizational performance and achieve strategic goals.
