913: Contemporary Europe: British Politics and Society

July 7-11
1:45 PM - 3:15 PM
Online

So many people think about British food, culture, and the monarchy and often think about Britain through the “lens” of historical dramas like The Crown or Downton Abbey. Yet there is a lot more going on in Contemporary Britain. This short course will begin with a brief look at contemporary British social and cultural issues, followed by a class on current British, Scottish and Northern Irish politics, and then some challenges facing contemporary Britain. A short introduction. The goal is to learn something about British politics and political parties, the current government, the pressures for independence, and some of the current challenges depending on class interests (e.g. healthcare, inequality, foreign policy, budgets, immigration). This study group has a high class size capacity.
