9703: How Wrens and Raspberries Helped Win the Battle of the Atlantic
February 3-6
11:45 AM -
1:15 PM
Online
The Battle of the Atlantic was all about naval blockades—in particular, German U-boats trying to stop convoys of Allied merchant ships from delivering essential supplies to England. U-boats were a menace that threatened England's survival. Eventually, the Royal Navy figured out how to defeat the U-boats. We will study the little-known Royal Navy group which trained 5000 Allied Naval personnel on how to defeat the U-boats and turned the tide of the battle—the Western Approaches Tactical Unit (WATU). The final day of the course will include four museum tours of some of the ships and command headquarters that were involved in the Battle of the Atlantic. This study group has a high class size capacity.
