9202: Cartooning: The Lost Art

February 10-13
1:45 PM - 3:15 PM
In-Person

Cartoons were once the province of newspapers and candy stores. Some cartoonists are forgettable, but others rank with the great illustrators. We will discuss the following: (1) political/editorial cartoons, (2) cartoon strips, (3) comic books, and (4) sports cartoons. Among the artists we will touch upon are illlustrators Nathan Pyle and his disciples, editorial cartoonists from Nast through Herblock to Handlesman, comic strips from Yellow Kid through Mike Doonesbury, comic book artists focusing on superheroes, and sports cartoonists, specifically Willard Mullin. You will see that these genres inform, challenge, and pull at emotions, from sadness to joy.
