Summer/Fall 2021 Music-Theatre Group

Alliance for New Music-Theatre

2021 Summer & Fall Season of Live & About – 11th Season

A Journey in Musical Languages across the Spectrum of Music-Theatre

Through Performance & Conversation

Alliance for New Music-Theatre is pleased to announce that we are re-launching our “Live & About” series in collaboration with OLLI. This program, which was added to OLLI classes in 2018, was interrupted in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic.

Until we can meet again in person and attend live music-theatre performances in the DMV we hope you will rejoin Alliance for New Music-Theatre as we re-emerge this spring with our new digital line up of Short Gems.

Last year, in the midst of the Covid shutdown, we commissioned six teams of creative artists to respond to a work of art in The Phillips Collection as part of their Centennial Year Celebration and also to refract through new works of music-theatre something about conversations from this past challenging year. Each piece is from 10-25 Minutes, created by different composer-lyricist teams, and featuring a single instrument in a variety of musical styles.

Now on a monthly basis, starting in early June we will feature the six Short Gems videos on YouTube. Following the viewing period, we will host an on-line discussion for each work with two options for joining on a weekday evening or weekend. These discussions will further explore the intent of the work, often with the artists or invited guest who may have a special relationship with the featured artist's work.

The videos will be available for viewing one week before each discussion.
