DICK BUDSON, clarinet, began playing jazz with guitarist Kenny Burrell in Detroit in 1953. As a freshman at Harvard College, he organized his first quartet. While a professor at Harvard Medical School, he continued performing jazz with musical collaborators in Boston and later in Washington.


ROBERT SYKES, piano, has taught and performed in the Washington, DC area for thirty years, including performances at The Phillips Collection, the Kennedy Center and The Hillwood Museum. A Levine School of Music faculty member since 1994, he co-chaired their Jazz Program and directs The Levine Summer Jazz Camp.


ERIC HARPER, bass, Washington born, is an Oberlin College graduate. He performs currently with ensembles in DC at venues such as Blues Alley and Twins Jazz. He toured nationally with “In The Mood,” a 1940’s Musical Revue and appeared internationally at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and in Shanghai, China.


DOMINIC SMITH, drums, earned a degree in Jazz Performance from Towson State University. He studied in New York City with jazz greats, including Kenny Washington and Ralph Peterson. He has performed nationally and in Washington with many jazz luminaries, including Charlie Byrd and Scott Hamilton.


CHRIS BATTISTONE, trumpet, earned a degree in Jazz Education from the University of North Texas in 1983. He played professionally while in school. Upon graduation, he toured with the Glen Miller Orchestra in the United States and Europe. He continues to perform with prominent local jazz artists.


STEVE HERBERMAN, guitar, a Berklee College of Music graduate, has played at many venues, including Birdland in NYC, Spazio in Los Angeles, and Blues Alley and the Kennedy Center. His CDs have made JazzWeek’s Top 10 and his CD of original music, “Action: Reaction,” reached Jazz Improv’s Top 50 for the year.
